Worksite Hand Sanitation and Safety Tips

Hand Sanitization

As a business owner, you should ensure that the hygiene at your office is as impeccable as in your home. Worksite neatness is not only for food and personal hygiene industries but is for every business.

It is important to keep the workplace neat as it leads to a happier and more productive work environment.

A healthy worksite means there will be fewer sick leaves from your employees and you can expect consistent growth from your staff. Neat workplaces ensure that your employees also follow the same hygiene practices and allow them to keep the office clean.

Below is the hygiene practice you can follow at your workplace.

Implement a hygiene policy and inform staff of the expectations

The better way to get all your employees to maintain neatness is by implementing a hygiene policy. And you have to make sure to inform all your staff and what is expected of them in the matter of cleanliness. You can either communicate through work email or by posting posters and flyers around your worksite.

And you can also ask all your employees to come to the office in washed and neat clothes, well-groomed hair, perfume, and with clean shoes. When each member of your employee is neat, then your workplace won’t gather much from the outside.

Keep a well-stocked and well-maintained bathroom

Some people find it uncomfortable to use the bathroom outside the one at their home. However, in workplaces, a bathroom should be well-maintained and well-stocked with all the cleanliness items like soaps, hand wash, tissues, and hand dryer.

It should also contain well-washed sinks and toilets and they should be cleaned frequently as many people use the common facilities regularly during the work timings.

Many businesses hire a team for cleanliness maintenance so that all the common facilities like the kitchen and the bathroom are neat and fresh always.

Provide wipes, sanitiser and gloves

Hand Sanitizer & Gloves

Your worksite should contain wipes and sanitisers wherever possible because the employees are more likely to use them if they are readily available. You can also provide gloves like nitrile gloves especially if your business deals with reactive substances like chemicals and oily substances. Using gloves will not only let your employees contaminate the objects but also vice versa.

Regularly clean common areas

The common areas in your worksite like the bathroom, the kitchen, dormitories, lounge room, and other common rooms must be thoroughly and frequently cleaned.

As your entire workforce uses these areas, there will be more dirt, germs, and stains. Frequently cleaning these places ensures a hygienic workplace that appeals not only to your employees but also to your customers and visitors.

Regular cleaning also decreases the chance of infections and the spread of diseases like COVID-19. It also increases your morale and professionalism and can effectively raise your brand value.

Sign-in/sign-out policy on machines

Every employee must sign in indicating the start of the machine and sign out when the work is done with the machine. It allows less transmission of viruses from one person to the other.

In the wake of COVID-19, everyone operating machines like elevators and escalators are recommended to minimise touching the surfaces as many people use these machines. So you can give the operators gloves to cover their hands from contaminating and getting contaminated.

Additional hygiene practices to follow in a workplace:

  • Washing or sanitising your hands before and after you enter the work site. Washing hands regularly before and after eating, coughing and sneezing.
  • Disposing of waste like tissues, wipes, and cigarette bins in closed bins.
  • Train workers on following hygiene practices like washing, sanitising, covering mouth when coughing, etc.
  • Putting flyers and banners of cleaning instructions near the common places like the bathroom, kitchen, rest room, etc.
  • Communicate to your workers about hygiene standards while using washroom facilities like cleaning themselves properly, throwing waste only in the bins, and avoiding placing phones and other objects on the surfaces of the bathroom and kitchen.

Let’s Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

Following hygiene is for you and everyone around you. However, with the emergence of diseases like COVID-19, we are in dire need of strictly following cleaning practices so that we can decrease the transmission of viruses.

Hence, in a workplace, implement measures to regularly monitor whether everyone is following hygiene standards or not.
